Journalism

I'm deeply grateful for the 25 years I spent working as a journalist. The job allowed me to meet some incredible and inspiring people and visit some remarkable places. It taught me to work to tough deadlines, to express my thoughts clearly and precisely. It taught me to stop dithering and get on with it. It also taught me the value of teamwork. I learnt not to be precious about my writing or my films, to always seek out and listen to others' input. My work was almost always the better for it. The kind of writing and film making that I do today is very different in style to journalism. But the skills I learnt out on stories with an editor demanding 600 words or a one minute report in two hours time, still serve me every single day. I will always have a huge respect for my friends and former colleagues who continue to do this much-maligned, frequently dangerous, highly stressful and vital job. Journalism will always be part of me. I wouldn't be able to do what I do today without it.

Below are links to a few examples, in English and French, of my journalistic work.
